On Monday, Oct. 24 City Council passed an updated Snowplowing and Ice Removal Policy.
Historically, on-street parking has been restricted from November 15 to April 15 to maximize snowplowing efficiencies and to clear the roadways after plowing operations.
However, the new policy changes winter parking restrictions from a complete ‘no overnight parking’ policy to ‘no overnight parking’ only when a snow event is declared (when snow accumulation is expected).
This change would allow overnight parking between weather events and prohibit parking when a snow event is declared.
This ordinance is enforced by the Wright County Sheriff’s Office. Vehicles in violation during a snow event may be towed without notice at the owner’s expense. Call WCSO’s non-emergency number: (763) 682-1162, to locate a towed vehicle.
The City will attempt to declare a snow event by 4:30 p.m. the day before an anticipated accumulative snowfall event. The snow event will be communicated in a variety of ways, including the City’s website, opt-in text or email alerts, social media, and local news outlets.
