Work begins today on the Monticello Community Center's Walnut Street entrance. We apologize in advance for the inconvenience and noise associated with construction, but we’re excited to be moving forward with the repairs.
Following the crash that damaged the entrance, the city engaged HCM architects to develop plans to rebuild the doorway. In June, the City Council approved RJM Construction to complete the project. We anticipate the work will be completed by the end of the year.
Along with the repairs, there are several modifications for greater accessibility, safety, and maintenance ease, including:
- Replacing both sets of entrance doors with sliding glass doors.
- Closing in the glass window area adjacent to the Academy Room entrance into the hallway.
- Replacing the entrance area flooring with a built-in walk-off area to better collect debris and minimize the need for rugs.
While we weren’t anticipating this reconstruction effort, we’re committed to renewing the most visible and welcoming entrance into our community center.
