City of Monticello, MN

Absentee Voting

Instead of voting on Election Day, Minnesota allows citizens to vote with an absentee ballot. Voters who vote by absentee ballot are not eligible to vote on Election Day.

Monticello City Hall only processes absentee applications and provides absentee ballots to residents of the city.

Voter Registration

Please follow the instructions below to apply for an absentee ballot even if you are not a registered voter.  Registration materials for non-registered voters are included in the absentee ballot packet.

Applying to Vote Absentee:

Applications for absentee ballots can be submitted from September 23 - November 7 for the General Election.

  1. Apply in person at City Hall. Available Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Saturday, November 5 from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m., or Monday, November 7 from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. Citizens who apply in person can fill out their ballots, and voter registration if necessary, during the same visit.
  2. Access the absentee application online. Type your information into the fields as directed on the screen.  When you complete all fields on both screens, click the submit button.  Your application will be electronically sent to the City of Monticello.  Note: you must provide an email address for this option.
Voting Absentee:

Once the application is complete, voters can vote absentee at Monticello City Hall or have a ballot packet mailed to them.

As of November 3rd absentee ballots will no longer be mailed to voters. If you received your absentee ballot by mail, you can still mail it back as long as it's received at City Hall by 8p.m. on November 8, 2016.

City Hall Absentee Voting Hours:
